Jiří Pavlica
Jiří Pavlica is a renowned musician, composer, violinist, singer and musical theorist. He received the Doctor Honoris Causa for his extraordinary merits and creative work in Czech, especially Moravian music. Pavlica is a long-time principal of the Hradišt'an ensemble, a world music pioneer and an aficionado of Moravian folklore. His own music fuses elements of various musical genres with a more profound message and often contains spiritual or philosophical themes.
Pavlica studied violin at the Brno Conservatory, theory of culture at the Faculty of Arts of Palacký University and composition at the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. In his work, he first drew on Moravian folklore, which he explored in historical and regional contexts. Gradually, his work expanded into multi-genre overlays and experiments, creating original musical crossovers.
His work ranges from stage and artistic music to collaborations with major performers at home and abroad. Notable is his connection to the poetry of Jan Skácel and his contribution to the field of religious music. Pavlica holds numerous awards, and as a fellow dramaturge, he participates in the Concerts of People of Good Will at Velehrad. In his activities, he constantly emphasizes the necessity of perceiving the world in a broader philosophical and historical context.
