Scientific Centres
Palacký University Olomouc has long been one of the most successful Czech university applicants for financial support under the Operational Programme “Research and Development for Innovation” (OP VaVpI). Thanks to university projects, science-research centres have been erected on the premises of Olomouc, and their significance reaches far beyond the region. In 2020, they were partially or fully integrated into the Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute.
CATRIN
The Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN) at Palacký University is a research centre dedicated to cutting-edge research in nanotechnology, biotechnology, and biomedicine. Its cornerstones are top-quality scientific teams with a significant proportion of international researchers, interdisciplinarity, international collaboration and a strong commitment to translating research findings into practical applications.
Thanks to the unique collaboration between experts from a wide range of fields – including materials science, plant science and biomedical research – the researchers, in collaboration with leading international institutions, are developing solutions to many of today’s global challenges. The materials and technologies being developed are intended for applications aimed at improving the quality of life and public health, ensuring food security through sustainable agriculture, contributing to the efficient use of energy resources – including ‘green energy’ – and improving the state of the environment.
The Czech Advanced Technology and Research Institute (CATRIN) was founded in 2020 as a university institute of Palacký University in Olomouc. In the short time since its establishment, CATRIN has developed into a modern, internationally oriented and interdisciplinary research institute.

Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine
The institute is a technological infrastructure and platform for performing molecular-oriented basic and translational biomedical research. Scientists endeavour to better understand the molecular basis of human infectious diseases and cancer. Research is aimed at identifying new biomarkers and therapeutic goals.
