Personalities in Science

Pavel Hobza

Chemist, Czech Mind National Award Recipient, Member of the Learned Society of the Czech Republic
The road taken by the most-cited living Czech scientist, Pavel Hobza, began decades ago in the Olomouc Teaching Hospital's pharmacy, which was built by his father. The young boy was entranced by the smells of medicines and ointments there, and he would put on his father's white smock. The possibility of studying pharmacy was not possible in Olomouc, but chemistry was.

Milan Kolář

Doctor, Microbiologist, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry
Milan Kolář cast his lot in Medicine in 1982, when he began his studies in General Medicine at the UP Faculty of Medicine. After graduation and a year of military service he began to devote himself entirely to science and research. He chose the field of Microbiology already in his second year of studies in Medicine.

Josef Molnár

Mathematician, Educator, Faculty of Science Vice-Dean
This Kopřivnice native was certain that he would be a teacher when he was still in primary school. While he was always inclined towards natural sciences, mathematics was another possibility for his future studies. He studied Secondary School Education, with a combination in Mathematics and Descriptive Geometry at Palacký University Olomouc, where he was awarded his Doctorate in Sciences in Algebra and Number Theory.
