Josef T. Prchal

Josef Prchal is Professor of Internal Medicine, Genetics, and Pathology at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City. He is one the most world-renowned experts in haematology, genetics, and pathology. His most significant scientific contributions include his participation in the discovery of the origin of blood elements from the common haematopoietic stem cell, generally accepted characteristics and classification of congenital polycythaemic states, and the discovery of congenital mutations in the hypoxia signalling pathway. He has been collaborating for many years with the Palacký University Department of Haemato-Oncology, Department of Medical Biology, and the Department of Paediatrics, especially by mediating international study visits for promising young scientists from Olomouc.

Honorary doctorate degree was conferred on June 23, 2011.
