Jiří Bártek

One of the most important Czech scientists today, Jiří Bártek is on the cutting edge of basic biomedical research worldwide and is the most cited scientist of Czech origin in the field of biological and medicinal sciences. As a director of several prestigious European research laboratories he has been focussed mainly on the research of regulatory mechanisms of tumour cell division and also mechanisms leading to tumour development. Jiří Bártek commenced his research in the biology of tumours already during his study at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University Olomouc where he is currently employed, leading one of the teams at the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine. He is the first Palacký University alumnus who received the title Doctor Honoris Causa from his alma mater.
